Riyadh-SANA-Syria was elected Wednesday as a member of the Executive Board of the Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD).
This came during the Centre’s General Assembly meetings held in Riyadh, with the participation of the Syrian delegation headed by Ayman Soussan, the Syrian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, and the Ministers of Agriculture in the Arab countries.
Speaking to SANA, Ambassador Soussan asserted that electing Syria to this position is a valuable addition that will enhance the work of ACSAD, especially at the level of promoting Arab integration to achieve food security; which has become a vital need in light of the current developments in the world.
Soussan renewed Syria’s persistent support for the work of the Centre, especially as the headquarters state, for this helps it carry out the tasks assigned to it.
Nasr Eddin Al Obaid was also re-elected during the meeting as ACSAD Director-General.
ACSAD was established in 1968 in Damascus. It is a specialized organization working within the framework of the League of Arab States (LAS) aiming at unifying national efforts to develop scientific agricultural researches in the arid and semi-arid areas and exchanging information and expertise in a way that ensures benefiting from scientific advancements and transferring, developing and localizing modern agricultural techniques in order to increase agricultural production in these areas.
