World bank expects Syria’s GDP to grow 1 percent in 2025
SANA NEWS -

Washington, SANA-The World Bank said on Monday that Syria’s gross domestic product is expected to grow modestly by 1 percent in 2025, following a contraction of 1,5 percent in 2024.

“The easing of sanctions provides some upside potential; however, progress remains limited as frozen assets and restricted access to international banking continue to hinder energy supply, foreign assistance, humanitarian support, and trade and investment,” the World Bank said in a statement.

On June 25th, 2025, the World Bank approved a 146 $ million grant to support Syria’s electricity sector and economic recovery.

US President Donald Trump issued on July 1st an executive order to lift sanctions imposed on the financial and banking sector in Syria.

Finance Minister Mohammad Yusr Barnieh considered the decision an important step that will reflect positively on the Syrian economy.
