Cotton cultivation continues in al-Ghab area despite economic challenges
SANA NEWS -

Hama, SANA- Despite the decline in financial returns and farmers shifting toward alternative crops that are less costly and more profitable, cotton cultivation continues in al-Ghab area this season.

Director of the General Commission for Management and Development of al-Ghab Plain Eng. Abdulaziz al-Qassem, explained that although cotton was not included in this year’s summer agricultural plan due to drought and water shortages, several farmers in al-Ghab Plain have continued planting it, relying on their previous experience.

He noted that the areas planted with cotton this season in the region’s lands did not exceed 90 dunums, and this cultivation could be promising if irrigation water is provided and support for the crop is secured, by delivering production requirements to farmers before the planting date in addition to raising the price of receiving cotton.
