Damascus, SANA-The Damascus International Airport project reflects the culture of the Syrian people and their historic civilization. It will serve more than 31 million passengers annually and will be a terminal for the world’s leading airlines.
This is among the investment projects for which memorandums of understanding were signed, in the presence of President Ahmad al-Sharaa, with several international companies at the People’s Palace in Damascus.
Prior to the construction of the new airport, the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation launched a comprehensive development plan aimed at strengthening the tourism sector and increasing the number of visitors through gradual phases.
This plan began with the beautification and modernization of the airport road and the rehabilitation of Terminals 1 and 2, which have a combined capacity of nearly 6 million passengers per year.
The next phase will involve the construction of a new airport in three stages. The first phase will accommodate 10 million passengers per year, followed by the second one, with a capacity of 7.5 million, and the third other, with the same capacity.
The new airport will include a modern passenger terminal and VIP lounges dedicated to the presidency, ministries, and private aircraft, as well as international restaurants and a duty-free shop featuring leading brands.
The airport will also be equipped with the latest global technology and an advanced air cargo center, along with integrated aviation facilities and smart infrastructure.
The architectural vision of the new airport combines contemporary innovation with Syrian heritage. Inspired by the legendary Damascus sword craftsmanship.
This sophisticated concept serves as a catalyst for innovation, reinterpreting Damascus design with a charming, contemporary twist.
The design of the new passenger terminal is directly inspired by the fluid and dynamic lines of the legendary and noble Damascus steel sword, which symbolizes strength, precision, and elegance, to adapt to contemporary public tastes and the dynamics of travel.
In his speech during the signing ceremony of investment memorandums of understanding with several international companies, Talal al-Hilali, Chairman of the Syrian Investment Authority, explained that the Damascus International Airport project is one of the most significant investment projects signed, with an investment value of $4 billion.
