“Syrian pottery through ages“ within activities of Syrian Culture Days in Damascus

Damascus, SANA- Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums held an exhibition entitled “Syrian Pottery Through Ages” at Damascene hall at Damascus National Museum within activities of Syrian Culture Days, Damascus.

The exhibition included dozens of pottery pieces dating back to four different eras: prehistory, the ancient East, the classical eras, and the Islamic period.

The pieces are in different shapes, colors, and sizes, carrying many connotations to tell the history of this ancient craft, which is one of the important aspects of Syrian civilization.

Culture Minister Diala Barakat attended the exhibition and pointed out that the importance of this event, which comes within the celebration of the Syrian Culture Days, with the aim of introducing the importance of pottery throughout the Syrian geography and the stages of its development throughout the ages.

Director General of Antiquities and Museums Nazir Awad said that this exhibition provided a comprehensive idea about the richness and diversity of the pottery industry in Syria, and the ability of its craftsmen to innovate and develop it in order to reach important, precisely crafted forms that were exported abroad.
