Damascus, SANA – The Syrian Fine Artists Union affirmed its commitment to unity, following the seizure of the union’s branch in Sweida by some colleagues, their reshuffle of its board in violation of the law and regulations, without prior approval of the executive board.

The union indicated, in a statement on Tuesday, that it preferred to wait before taking any procedures, based on a set of institutional and national considerations, while exercising self-restraint and wisdom, and avoiding being drawn into emotional reactions, out of concern for unity in light of the exceptional circumstances and psychological pressures to which some colleagues are exposed.

The Fine Artists Union expressed its condolences for the souls of all citizens and fellow artists who lost their lives in the recent events, stressing that their loss is a loss to the nation and to Syria’s cultural and artistic journey.

The statement concluded by emphasizing that the Syrian Union of Fine Artists is a national institution that embraces all Syrian artists, defends their pioneering role, and adheres to the unity of Syrian territory and the nation’s right to security, sovereignty, and stability.
