Damascus, SANA- Director-General of Antiquities and Museums, Anas Haj Zidane, said Sunday that maintenance works underway in several areas of the Old City of Damascus, such as Al-Hariqa and Bab Touma, carried out in full coordination between the Damascus Governorate and the Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums.
Zidane added these works “don’t touch historic buildings, and limited to repairing the electricity, water, and sewage networks that serve the local residents”.
He clarified that despite of the historical significance of these areas but it is inhabited by people who need daily services, and that service failures cannot be left unaddressed.
Zidane explained that current works in Bab Touma, for example, are example of normal maintenance work carried out with high professionalism and strict institutional coordination.
