Lebanese artist Ziad Rahbani passed away, aged 69

Damascus, SANA – The prominent Lebanese musician and playwright Ziad Rahbani died on Saturday at the age of 69, after a busy artistic career that influenced modern Arab music and theatre, during which he left an unforgettable mark on the Lebanese and Arab cultural conscience.

Rahbani is the son of Mrs. Fairouz and the late Assi Rahbani, and he is one of the most prominent artists, composers, and playwrights in Lebanon, where he is known for his modern music. He also emerged through critical plays that described the sad Lebanese reality in a humorous and sarcastic manner.

Ziad Rahbani is known for his plays that reflect Lebanese reality in a sarcastic and intelligent style. His works are characterized by boldness and a deep analysis of society, in addition to his modern music that incorporates jazz elements and Western styles into the Eastern tone in an avant-garde style.
