5.7magnitude earthquake strikes Japan’s Northern Hokkaido Island

Tokyo, SANA-An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck the eastern coast of Hokkaido, Japan’s northernmost island, earlier on Monday.

The National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience  (NIED) reported that the earthquake, which occurred at around 12:00 local time, struck at a depth of 56 kilometers on the eastern coast of Hokkaido Island.

The Japan Meteorological Administration determined the earthquake’s magnitude at 5.3, noting that reports may be issued later to revise the strength and depth.

No tsunami warnings were issued, and there have been no reports of injuries or major damage so far.
