WHO: Health conditions in Gaza reach catastrophic levels, Hospitals exceed capacity
SANA NEWS -

Geneva, SANA-World Health Organization’s representative in the occupied Palestinian territories, Dr. Rick Peeperkorn, warned that the health situation in Gaza Strip has reached catastrophic levels, with hospitals operating far beyond capacity. Some life-saving medicines are totally out of stock, while deaths from malnutrition and disease are on the rise,

Peeperkorn told reporters in Geneva, according to the UN News website: “Fewer than half of Gaza’s hospitals and under 38 per cent of primary healthcare centres are partially functioning – or are doing so at minimal levels amid a severe shortage of medicines and medical supplies.

“Hospitals are particularly overwhelmed by injuries from food distribution areas, which are also driving persistent shortages of blood and plasma,” Peeperkorn added, noting that since 27 May, at least 1,655 people have been killed in those areas and more than 11,800 injured”.

The World Food Programme also warned that levels of hunger and malnutrition in Gaza are at their highest since the start of the aggression in October 2023, while Doctors Without Borders confirmed late last month that the Strip is facing the worst-case scenario of famine, with malnutrition among children reaching unimaginable levels.
