London, SANA-Crystal Palace claimed the Community Shield title for the 2024–2025 football season, defeating Premier League champions Liverpool 3–2 in a penalty shootout following a 2–2 draw in regular time

The Reds got off to an early lead through Hugo Ekitike’s goal in the fourth minute. Jean-Philippe Mateta then scored the equaliser for Palace in the 17th minute but Liverpool took just four minutes to get back into the lead again, courtesy Jeremie Frimpong’s stunning strike.

Palace came up with a resolute show in the second half and they got a leveller through Ismaila Sarr in the 77th minute. As both the teams were tied at 2-2 at the end of the alloted time, the match moved into the penalty shootout, where Palace emerged out victorious by a 3-2 (2-2) margin.
