The New York Knicks seem to be getting a hang of the Mike Brown offense. They unleashed an 83-point second half Wednesday night in Madison Square Garden, spoiling Anthony Edwards' return to the Minnesota Timberwolves lineup with a 137-114 win.

Edwards, who missed the previous four games with a right hamstring strain that he suffered early in an Oct. 26 win over the Indiana Pacers, finished with just 15 points, 5 assists and 2 rebounds on 5-of-13 shooting in 29 minutes against the Knicks.

Edwards showed some life in the fourth quarter, but his rust showed after he followed up a made 3 with an airball from deep. It's worth noting that his return was ahead of schedule, as ESPN's Shams Charania reported at the time of Edwards' diagnosis that he was expected to miss two weeks with the injury.

While the Timberwolves' biggest star didn't have his best stuff in the Big Apple, Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo put on a show against their former team. More than a year since they were surprisingly traded to Minnesota for Karl-Anthony Towns, they combined for 53 points in the arena they used to call home.

In the first quarter, Randle piled up 11 points, three more than he totaled during his first game back in the Garden last season. By halftime, he and DiVincenzo had a combined 30 points, with a red-hot DiVincenzo splashing four first-half 3s against three of his college teammates.

As for the other part of last year's blockbuster trade, Towns dunked and dimed throughout the second frame. With four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert guarding him, Towns faked a 3 before gliding to the cup and hammering home a one-handed slam. Later on, he delivered an over-the-head pass to a backdoor cutting Jordan Clarkson, who cashed in for a two-handed flush.

But a 14-0 run Timberwolves run defined the quarter. It erased their nine-point deficit and dug the Knicks a five-point hole. DiVincenzo knocked down a pair of triples during that surge, pacing Minnesota's 12-of-23 shooting from beyond the arc in the opening half.

Early in the second half, New York countered with 10 straight points, taking a 76-67 lead. OG Anunoby followed up a steal with a score, Josh Hart took drew a Randle charge and then assisted a Jalen Brunson 3.

The Timberwolves finished last season sixth in defensive rating, but they're off to a slow start on that end of the floor this time around. That was clear in the third quarter when the Knicks poured in 40 points, 12 of which came from Brunson.

Minnesota's defensive issues persisted in the final frame. Anunoby exploited them. He converted a pair of and-1s, the second stemming from an offensive rebound and putback, and soon after he was unimpeded on his way to the rim, where he dropped in another layup. Anunoby brought defensive intensity all night and clocked out with a team-high 25 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block.

Brunson wasn't far behind in the scoring category with 23 points, which he coupled with 10 assists. Towns added 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Mitchell Robinson also tallied 10 rebounds, but nine of his came on the offensive glass.

In a matchup between two teams who made their respective conference finals last season, New York came out on top.
